He served in the Army for two years in WWII. At an early age he went to work with his dad in the family business driving a laundry truck. He also worked hard on his family farm caring for thousands of egg producing chickens, garden produce, livestock and hay. Bob was also employed with Emero Oil Company.
Bob married his one true love, Dorothy E. Brann on Oct. 16, 1943, and the couple resided in Bath to raise their family, most recently celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary.
In 1956, he proudly established Kaler Oil Co., Inc. Later he went to school and received his Master Oil Burner License. He ran his company with love and devotion always treating his customers like his own family. Bob had a big heart and was always there to lend a helping hand to those who needed it. He was there to fix a furnace, no matter what time it was, deliver oil, no matter what day it was, or just sit and talk with you when you needed someone. He was a gentleman.
Bob enjoyed the outdoors and in his free time, he loved to go camping and fishing. He was also well known for his wonderful sense of humor. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.
Robert was predeceased by his parents and a sister Margaret Bassler.
He leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Dorothy of North Bath; a son, Robert Kaler Jr. and his fiancée Judy Nickerson of North Bath; a daughter, Donna Marie K. Waterman and her husband Richard of Brunswick; four grandchildren, Ronald and his wife Melissa, Stephen and his wife Katherine, Michael and his wife Tanya, Brent and his wife Rebecca.
He had eight great-grandchildren and one greatgreat grandson. Robert truly enjoyed spending time with all of his grandchildren and he was fortunate to have had five generations.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, from 4 to 6 p.m. at David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath. A funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
