AUGUSTA — Experience the Spirit of Amelia at the Augusta State Airport on August 2, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Commemorate Amelia’s visit to Maine 80 years ago and learn about aviation opportunities today. Amelia Earhart was a pioneer in aviation, leading the way and encouraging the development of aviation – especially encouraging women to take flight. If you or anyone in your family, girl or boy of any age, have ever dreamed of flying, please come explore aviation opportunities available today.
Augusta State Airport’s Fixed Base Operator (FBO) located at 215 Winthrop St., Augusta, will offer an overview of her visit with a traveling exhibit commemorating her trip to Maine in August 1934.
The Ninety-Nines will be offering information about the organization that Amelia Earhart was instrumental in forming and who served as their first president. The day will also include a look back at other women in aviation history; information about aviation careers and volunteerism opportunities; aviation education and its direct connection to today’s emphasis on STEM education. The day will also include airport tours, a preflight demonstration, and women in aviation professions will be on hand to answer questions and inspire you to take to the sky.
