Durham GOP caucus

Durham Republican Committee Chairman Jason Greene is calling a caucus to nominate a replacement candidate for House District 46. The caucus will be held in the meeting room behind the Shiloh Chapel on Wednesday, July 23, at 7 p.m. All registered Republicans are welcome. For more information, call Greene at 504-1982.

Barbecue chicken dinner Aug. 2

The First Congregational Church, 773 Royalsborough Road, is hosting an all-you-can-eat barbecue chicken dinner, Saturday, Aug. 2, from 4:30-6 p.m., at the church.

On the menu are chicken, potato salad, green salad, homemade pies and desserts. The cost is $9 for adults, $5 for children 5-12 and free for children under 5.

Frozen apple pies, made by church members using local apples from Ricker Hill Farm, will also be for sale at $10. Several are available with no sugar added.

Club schedules safety classes

The Durham Rod & Gun Club, 59 Pound Road, is holding safety classes this summer at the clubhouse. To register for the classes, write to Maineguide04071@gmail.com or call 655-7681. Homework is required to pass, as well as a written test. Classes include:

Archery safety: July 29, 6-9 p.m., and finishing Aug. 10, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Hunter safety: Aug. 12, 6-9 p.m. and finishing Aug. 24, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Rent Eureka Center

The Durham Eureka Community Center is available for rent. The maximum amount of people the hall holds for an event is 50. Contact Nancy Decker at 751-1323 or the Town Office at 353-2561.

Cribbage, couponing

The Durham Eureka Community Center, corner of Route 9 and Route 136, hosts cribbage every Tuesday from 9 a.m.-noon.

Couponing for the Community meets at the Community Center every other Tuesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. It is a chance to learn couponing basics including where/how to find and collect coupons; how to organize them; and how to begin using them. Pat Provost heads this project with the hopes that some of the skills acquired will be used to give back to the community by helping families in need.

Food pantry

The Lisbon Area Christian Outreach (LACO) food pantry, which serves the towns of Durham, Bowdoin, and Lisbon Falls, is open Wednesday from 6-8 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m.-noon and Saturday from 8-10 a.m. The LACO Food Pantry is located at the Marion T. Morse School on School Street, Lisbon Falls. The parking lot is behind the Lisbon United Methodist Church, off Berry Avenue. There is also a free clothing bank.
