A Gardiner woman has died from injuries she suffered July 6 when she crashed her motorcycle in Augusta.

Karen O’Donnell, 53, died Tuesday at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, said Deputy Chief Jared Mills of the Augusta Police. O’Donnell was being treated for what police described as serious injuries suffered during the crash on Western Avenue.

O’Donnell was driving east with a group around 4:30 p.m. July 6 when she hit a pothole created by road construction area near Woodside Road, Augusta Police Sgt. Christopher Shaw said at the time. O’Donnell was thrown from her motorcycle.

She was flown to the hospital by LifeFlight helicopter.

O’Donnell, a former police officer in Fairfield, was wearing a helmet, Shaw said.

Shaw said neither speed nor alcohol was a factor in the crash.
