BRUNSWICK — Sylvester Emanuel Cobbs II of Brunswick, died July 2, 2014. He was the son of Ursula “Suzie Q” and Sylvester “Cobby” Cobbs Sr. Sylvester was born at the Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, on Oct. 10, 1953, and moved with his family to Brunswick in 1964, where he graduated from Brunswick High in 1971.

Boating was a great passion of Sylvester’s as well as sports and photography. Sylvester earned two bachelor’s degrees, one in administration of justices and one in mental health and human services. In recent years he worked as an advocate for immigrants in Portland, teaching English as second language. He also worked with homeless and lowincome people.

He is survived by his minor son Grayson Santana Jones, of Brunswick. Two daughters: Atira Cobbs and Tamekia Cobbs. His sister, Belita Velizco and brother, Ernesto Fernando. He has two grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brunswick. Memorial donations can be made at that time. Many thanks are extended to the friends, medical providers and general community who supported Sylvester through his illness.
