BIDDEFORD — Roger J. Nolette, 88, of Biddeford died Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough.

He was born in Ham Nord, PQ, Canada on Aug. 27, 1925, the son of Ernest and Elise Lizotte Nolette.

He came to the local area as a young boy and was educated in Biddeford schools.

At the age of 6, he began selling newspapers on the streets of Biddeford.

On May 3, 1947 he married Eva Hubert in St. Joseph Church in Biddeford. She died on May 16, 1997.

Mr. Nolette worked 10 years with the Saco-Lowell Shop in Biddeford and 35 years with the Pepperell, West Point Pepperell, York & Bates Mfg. Cos. in Biddeford and Saco, retiring in 1991.

Roger volunteered during the Great Maine Fire of 1947 that raged from Mt. Desert to Kennebunk. He was an avid Red Sox fan and loved berry picking and sharing his bounty.

He was preceded in death by: three brothers, Conrad, Leo and Bruno.

He is survived by: one son, Roland R. Nolette and his wife Mary Beth of Scarborough; one sister, Yvette St. Onge of Biddeford; three brothers, Maurice Nolette of Biddeford, Donald Nolette and his wife Dolores of Old Orchard Beach, and Raoul Nolette and his wife Jeannine of Biddeford; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8 at Hope Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME.
