ORR’S ISLAND — John David Chiquoine died Friday, July 27, 2014, on Orr’s Island.

Born in Chester, Pa., he was the son of the late John Earnest Chiquoine and Elizabeth Reinhard Chiquoine.

He was a member of Swarthmore High School’s class of 1945, and graduated from Pennsylvania State University. He married high school sweetheart Jean Dickson in February 1950. He worked for the DuPont Company for 35 years, helping to design and build chemical plants worldwide.

Retiring to Orr’s Island, John loved the island community and was dedicated to the Orr’s and Bailey Islands Fire Department, the Harpswell Board of Appeals, the Orr’s and Bailey Island Yacht Club and the State of Maine Electrical Board. Despite the loss of his vision in his later years, he found creative ways, with the assistance of the Iris Network, to continue his community service.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean Dickson Chiquoine; daughter Elizabeth Chiquoine of Cambridge, Mass., her husband Joseph Moore, granddaughter Hannah and her husband Andrew Holland and great-granddaughter Greta, and grandson Nathaniel; daughter Erica Formisano of Lexington, Ky., her husband Ron, granddaughter Laura, and grandson Matthew; and a brother, A. Duncan Chiquoine of Deven, Mass.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Iris Network, 189 Park Ave., Portland, ME 04102; and the Orr’s and Bailey Islands Fire Department, P.O. Box 177, Orr’s Island, ME 04066. Please visit www.brackettfuneralhome.com to leave a message of condolence for the Chiquoine family.
