Eaton, Lampron history contest winners
Dick Eaton of Westbrook captured first place in the Westbrook Historical Society’s history contest with his digital entry about H.W. Forester, Westbrook’s civil engineer and surveyor from 1888-1934.
Ted Lampron of Myrtle Beach, S.C., was the second-place winner with “A Voice From the Past,” the story of young boys in the 1950s walking to school at St. Mary’s Church and playing in Riverbank Park.
Donna Conley of the society said entries were received from several states, including Virginia and Arizona. Entries included stories about a Westbrook dairy farmer, life in Westbrook in the 1940s and ’50s, a deadly mill accident and an unsolved murder.
“The Westbrook Historical Society thanks everyone who entered and helped preserve a piece of Westbrook history,” Conley said.
Conley also thanked judges Roberta Morrill, Westbrook Historical Society vice president; Julie Peterson, curator of the Walker Library Family History room; and Barbara Beesley, a retired Westbrook educator.
All the entries for the past three years can be read at the historical society in the Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St., Westbrook.
