FALMOUTH — Hear ME now recently announced that its board of directors has appointed Jennifer Kanwit as a member of the board.

Kanwit previously held the position of public relations and development director at hMn and is currently an executive assistant at ghSMART. She lives in Brunswick with her husband and their daughter.

“I am so happy that Jennifer is joining the board of directors at hear ME now,” said executive director Pamela Dawson. “She brings the best of all experiences to hear ME now as a former employee, as an individual with hearing loss who received an auditory oral education, and as an enthusiastic new mother currently living in those early childhood days.”

A former teacher of the deaf for the New York City Department of Education, Kanwit has a personal connection with the hard-of-hearing and deaf community. Her own hearing loss at age 2 and her use of hearing aids to listen and speak has motivated her to become an advocate in the community. In addition to a bachelor of arts in communications and media from Rutgers University, Kanwit holds a master of arts and education from Teachers College of Columbia University.

“I’m honored to represent such an upstanding organization for a cause I hold dear to my heart. Hear ME now will continue to succeed because everyone involved is committed to the success of listening and spoken language in Maine,” said Kanwit.

Hear ME now is Maine’s leading auditory oral education center for children and adults with hearing loss, their communities and their families. Its mission is to help clients learn to communicate directly with the hearing world using listening and spoken language. Highly specialized speechlanguage pathologists, educational audiologists and teachers of the deaf work with schools to provide professional development for those working with individuals with hearing loss.
