On Tuesday, June 10, in the Republican primary race for State House District 7, which includes most of the Town of Wells, Wells Republicans have an opportunity to nominate an individual who is well-qualified to represent the people of the town.
With term limits in effect, which has necessitated Kathy Chase’s departure as our current state representative, we need to make sure we send someone to take her place who knows this town, knows the issues facing our town and our state and knows how to get things done.
Robert Foley is that candidate.
Foley has been at the forefront of every important issue that has faced this town in the past 20 years, such as: the rewriting of our comprehensive plan; the dredging of Wells Harbor ”“ twice ”“ putting sand on our beaches to protect that valuable resource; successfully fighting the FEMA flood insurance remapping of our town in 2000 and again in 2014; working to implement a five-year plan for the rebuilding of our roads and bridges; reorganizing the transfer station to make it more efficient and financially stable; and traveling to Augusta to successfully testify against Ogunquit’s attempt at withdrawing from our school district.
As a selectman for 15 years, Foley has provided true leadership for our town. Serving as chairman for eight of those years, he has the proven skills to bring people together, to solve problems, no matter the issue. He is willing to listen to all sides before deciding the best route for the town to go. He seeks input and ideas of how best to manage the important issues facing Wells.
He is respected throughout York County and the state for his leadership in establishing the organizations Save Our Shores-Maine and the Maine Coastal Coalition, which helped broker reasonable sand dunes rules and a State of Maine Beach Management policy that allows property owners and businesses to repair and renovate their properties and helps protect our valuable coastline.
Foley currently serves on the State’s Board of Environmental Protection as chairman, and has developed an enormous amount of knowledge on state policies, procedures and crafting of laws that will serve him well in a legislative role. Implementing fair and effective environmental rules that allow for both economic opportunities as well as sound environmental stewardship has been one of Foley’s important contributions in that role. His fair and balanced approach will serve us well and help to move this state forward in a bipartisan way.
Whether it is serving as chairman of the town’s Charter Commission, past president of the Wells Rotary Club or on the board of trustees for York Hospital, the betterment of the Wells community is paramount in everything Foley does. If there were a job description written to fill the role of state representative for the Town of Wells, his resume fits the bill.
On June 10, we urge you to vote for Robert Foley as the Republican candidate for State Representative for District 7. On November 4, we can take the final step and fill that seat by sending Foley to Augusta to represent all of us.
Rick and Joan Goodrich, Wells
