EMS Open House
Come meet the hard-working EMTs who are there for you in your time of need. An open house will be held at the fire station, 611 Lewiston Road, New Gloucester from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, May 21.
There will be demonstrations, face painting, games, balloons, hats, barbecue, free blood pressure checks, and free fingerprinting for child identification. Also, there will be door prizes from L.L. Bean and Hodgman’s Frozen Custard, Doggie Cottage and more. You must be present to win. Additionally, Cumberland County 911 Dispatch will be on hand. Call 926-4142 for more information.
MSAD 15 Budget Vote
A public meeting to vote on the School Administrative District 15’s proposed school budget will take place on Thursday, May 22, at 6 p.m., at the Gray-New Gloucester High School cafe?. The budget validation referendum vote will take place on Tuesday, June 10. If you have any questions, call the superintendent’s office at 657-3335.
Shaker Village Opening for the Season
The Sabbathday Lake Shaker Museum features five historic buildings that represent more than 250 years of Shaker history from their origins into the present day. Guided tours through period room settings allow visitors to see historic Shaker work rooms and sleeping rooms during various eras.
The Shaker Museum is open from Friday, May 23, through Monday, Oct. 13, on Mondays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., closed Sundays. An admission fee is charged. Workshops, concerts, tours, free demonstrations and special events are listed at www.shaker.lib.me.us. Call 926-4597 for more information.
New Parade Route
Memorial Day parade organizer Bill Greene is announcing a major change to the route in order to highlight the New Gloucester Veterans Memorial project. The start location will be the Memorial School, 86 Intervale Road, New Gloucester. The parade will proceed northerly along Route 231 and then turn right onto Route 100. It will end at the site of the New Gloucester Veterans Memorial, near McCann Fabrication.
Parade participants are to arrive at the school by 8:30 a.m., Monday, May 26, for a step-off at 9 a.m. A remembrance ceremony with brief remarks by several dignitaries will take place at the conclusion of the procession. Candidates’ Forum
Two candidates are vying for one open seat on the New Gloucester Board of Selectmen. They are Pamela Slye and Laura Sturgis. A candidates’ forum, open to the public, will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 7 p.m. at the New Gloucester Meetinghouse, 389 Intervale Road. Beverly Cadigan will serve as the moderator.
Citizens are encouraged to send questions to be asked by the moderator before noon on Tuesday, May 27, either by email to ngcabletv@gmail.com, or by USPS to NGTV, Town of New Gloucester, 385 Intervale Road, New Gloucester, ME 04260. The format will include a structured open session for questions from the audience. After the forum, the candidates will be available for a half-hour to speak one-on-one with the citizens present. This follow-up will not be televised.
The forum will be telecast live on local access cable Channel 3 and will be rebroadcast on June 6-8, at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Also, the program will be available online at www.newgloucester.com.
Youth Outdoor Day
The Royal River Rod and Gun Club, Fish Hatchery Road in New Gloucester, is sponsoring a free youth outdoor day for ages 10-15, Saturday, May 31, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Activities include classes in map and compass skills, archery, outdoor survival, fishing and marksmanship, plus a free lunch.

New Gloucester Historical Society curator Tom Blake holds the helmet belonging to Everett Snow at a History Barn exhibit on May 3. Snow, who was born and raised at a residence on the Jack Hall Road in New Gloucester, served as a supply sergeant in France during World War I. The exhibit honoring 61 now-deceased World War I veterans from New Gloucester, will continue for a few more months.
