Historians to tour cemetery

The Westbrook Historical Society is hosting a walk through Evergreen Cemetery off Stevens Avenue in Portland at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7. The society notes that the cemetery includes the old Pine Grove Cemetery that once was located in Westbrook. It was established in 1855 in Saccarappa.

The garden-style cemetery is the second largest in Maine. The tour will include gravesites of some of Westbrook’s early leading citizens.

Philippe to perform

Louis Philippe will entertain when the Westbrook senior citizens group meets at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 5, at the Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St.

The group will go to Ogunquit for a production of “Mary Poppins” and dine at the Fisherman’s Catch on Aug. 2. It will travel to Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire on Aug. 28 for a cruise, lunch, and visit to Castle in the Clouds. For more information, call 854-2705 or 883-5046.

Murray named to dean’s list

Ian Murray of Westbrook has been named to the dean’s list at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the fall semester. The dean’s list recognizes full-time students who maintain grade point averages of a minimum of 3.0 out of a possible 4.0. Murray studies physics at the Troy, N.Y., school.

‘Maine market’ vendor fair

The city of Westbrook and the Westbrook/Gorham Community Chamber of Commerce have announced a fair with Maine products, street performers and musicians to be held from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturdays this summer at Riverbank Park.

The fair is named the Maine Market. A 10-by-10-foot space costs $10 per Saturday, and vendors will need to provide tables to display their made-in-Maine goods. Ten free spaces will be available each week.

Button club starts

A new button club serving the Cumberland County area will meet from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, at Saint Anthony’s Parish, 268 Brown St., Westbrook.

Eighth-grade student Madison Damon of Westbrook Middle School will represent Maine in July at the Student Ambassador Summit at the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium in Texas. She was selected as Maine’s ambassador for “Fuel up to Play 60,” a program promoting healthy changes in schools. She is the daughter of Mark and Debbie Damon.
