EXPERIENCE: We have attended farmers markets in Bath and Brunswick for the past seven years, selling herbaceous perennial plants. Designed and installed naturalistic, low-maintenance plantings throughout the area for the past 10 years.
Graduated with a degree in resource management from Sterling College. UNUSUAL CHARACTERISTICS OF BUSINESS: We seek to educate the public concerning naturalistic planting design and its roots in the natural world, by promoting the use of wildflowers, ornamental grasses and other low-maintenance plants with a long season of interest, while offering face-to-face professional advice. Our nursery is also a farm, located on 150 acres of family-owned conservation land along the Cathance River. Also open for the public to view will be diverse organic vegetable gardens and a fledgling hybrid hazelnut orchard. A meadow walk will provide people an opportunity to explore and be in nature. PLANS: Our selection will continue to grow to roughly 300 varieties of ornamental plants, with an increasing focus on natives and self-selected varieties. We would also like to eventually include organic vegetable seedlings, organic hazelnut products, including regionally adapted nursery stock, bagged organic fertilizer and potting soil, and possibly other garden-related products.
Eventually a small shop will be built to complement these additions.
