NEWARK, Del. — Former Red Claw Tiny Gallon made a pair of foul shots that gave the Delaware 87ers the lead for good with 1:57 left in the game and they held on for a 147-142 win over Maine on Friday night at the Bob Carpenter Sports Convocation Center.
Gallon, who played in 35 games for the Red Claws during the 2010-11 season, finished with 20 points and was one of the seven players who had double figures for the 87ers.
Damian Saunders led the way for Delaware with 31 points, and also added nine rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots.
The Red Claws led 111-110 going into the fourth quarter, but Delaware took the lead 31 seconds into the period and did not trail again.
The Red Claws trailed by as many as 10 points in the final quarter before rallying to tie at 139-139 on a 3-pointer by Sherwood Brown with 2:18 left.
Maine was paced by Frank Gaines, who made 8- of 13 from behind the 3-point line and finished with a game-high 47 points.
Damen Bell-Holter added 22 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for the Red Claws, who outrebounded Delaware, 49-36.
Tyshawn Taylor also scored 22 points and dished out 14 assists for the Red Claws.
