The morning commute in southern Maine was made dicey by a snowy slush on many roads early Thursday.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office reported several vehicles off the road, and State Police responded to multiple crashes on the interstate that slowed traffic.

A crash in the northbound lanes of the Maine Turnpike between Exit 36 in Saco and Exit 42 in Scarborough slowed traffic on the highway and also led to congestion on Route 1 in Scarborough.

The regional dispatch center in Sanford reported a few crashes in the York County towns they cover, but nothing serious.

The National Weather Service in Gray canceled the winter weather advisory in southern Maine and said snow had been replaced by rain which was expected to end by midday.

Winter weather alerts remained in place for parts of northern Maine.
