HIDALGO, Texas — Dario Hunt scored 27 points, and Robert Covington added 26 points and 14 rebounds Wednesday night to lead the Rio Grande Valley Vipers to a 128-113 victory against the Maine Red Claws in a D-League game.

Daniel Orton led Maine (17-23) with 26 points and 16 rebounds, Frank Gaines added 25 points and Tyshawn Taylor followed with 18.

Hunt scored nine points and Maalik Wayns added eight of his 20 points in the first quarter to help the Vipers (27-13) take a 32-19 lead.

Maine bounced back to take a 54-51 lead with two minutes left in the second quarter with a 10-point effort from Sherwood Brown and eight points from Orton.

But Rio Grande Valley went into halftime with a 57-56 advantage.

Rio Grande Valley then took control for good with a 42-28 advantage in the third quarter for a 99-84 lead.

Brown finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds for Maine. Abdul Gaddy added 16 points and a team-high six assists.

The Vipers got 15 points from Gary Talton and 14 from Tony Bishop.

The Red Claws will play Friday night at Texas, then are home Sunday against Erie.
