Avita senior couples to renew vows
Avita of Stroudwater, a new assisted living community at 320 Spring St. in Westbrook, will celebrate Valentine’s Day with a vow renewal ceremony at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, and sweetheart dance at 2:30 p.m.
Two couples, collectively representing 123 years of marriage, will renew their vows in the presence of family and other residents. Courtney Freeman, executive director at Avita of Stroudwater, will officiate the vows.
Following the ceremony, the two couples – Ann and John Zerillo (married in 1948) and Barbara and Leon Fogg (married in 1955) – will be presented with certificates and dance to “It Had to be You.”
“It Had to be You” was the first dance song for both couples on their wedding days.
Several other Avita of Stroudwater residents and married couples will take part in the sweetheart dance immediately following the ceremony. They’ll dance to music from a disc jockey under Valentine’s decorations and enjoy hors d’hoeuvres, wine, a chocolate foundation and other sweets.
Family fun night fundraiser
St. Anthony’s Parish, 286 Brown St., is hosting a family fun night 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15.
There will be a karaoke party with homemade pizza and a make-your-own-sundae ice cream bar. Cost is $10 per person or $25,family.

Tea re-scheduled
The Valentine’s Day tea at Walker Memorial Library in Westbrook has been rescheduled to 1-4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, due to the predicted snowstorm on Thursday, Feb. 13.
Sinbad dance auditions
Vivid Motion, a Westbrook-based dance company, is holding open dance auditions for an encore of its 2013 show, “The Seven Voyages of Sinbad,” on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 10 a.m.-noon at the Acorn Productions Studio, 90 Bridge St., in Westbrook.
The audition will be conducted in a class-style format with the show’s choreographers each teaching a small combination in different dance styles. Adult and teen dancers of all styles and skill levels are welcome.
Directed by Scott Potter, the story centers on a man who longs to make a living as a merchant and gets swept away to distant lands and encounters fantastic creatures. Each voyage brings both danger and fortune, and when he finally returns home, the spirit of adventure entices him to begin again.
The show dates will be Thursday, May 15, through Sunday, May 18. Rehearsals will be on weekends starting March 1.

Adams earns honor
John Myers of Buxton, president of
Maine Town & City Clerks Association, recently announced that Westbrook City Clerk Lynda Adams has earned the status of certified municipal clerk from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.
Seniors to dine
Westbrook Senior Citizens will meet at noon on Monday, Feb. 17, at Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St., for a meal.
The menu includes meat loaf with gravy, potatoes, veggies, and chocolate pudding with a whipped topping. The Good Old Saccarappa Boys will entertain.
The seniors are planning a trip on Tuesday, April 15, to Mohegan Sun in Connecticut for a buffet lunch and a Debbie Reynolds concert. For more information, call 854-2705 or 883-5046.
Country music fundraiser
The Maine Country Music Association is holding an awards show fundraiser 12:30-4 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, at American Legion Post 197, 300 Conant St., Westbrook.
The event features the EZ Rider Band with Bobby Le, rhythm; Curt Perkins, lead; Phil Huff, keyboard; Dr. Lane Kaplan, drums; and Willie Dulac, bass. Hall of Fame inductees are Betty Gribbin and Gloria Jean, who recently recalled appearing as a guest in 1958 on Ken MacKenzie’s local TV show that featured Gribbin.
In addition to music, other features include raffle items, door prizes and 50/50 drawing. Food includes homemade chop suey, cole slaw, Italian bread, butter, and hot fudge brownies. Admission is $5 and food $5.
College honors
Andrew J. Correa of Westbrook has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. Correa is a freshman majoring in animal and poultry sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Deborah Elizabeth Knight of has earned president’s list honors for the fall semester at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Ky. Knight is a senior occupational safety major.
Women to hear LeBlanc
Jessica LeBlanc of Southern Maine Agency on Aging will speak when Westbrook Woman’s Club meets at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St. LeBlanc’s topic is “A Matter of Balance.” Guests are welcome and light refreshments will be served.

Elizabeth Collado, a Riverview Foundation martial arts instructor, leads a hands-on martial arts workshop for children at last weekend’s Chinese New Year celebration at Westbrook Middle School. The celebration, organized by the Chinese-American Friendship Association of Maine, also featured traditional Chinese dance performances and food. To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Riverview also signed up visitors at the Westbrook event for two free introductory classes at Riverview’s traditional dojos in South Portland or Topsham.
