SANFORD — Darlene L. Shapleigh, 52, of Sanford, passed away at her home on Feb. 4, 2014.

Darlene was born in Sanford on March 16, 1961, to Wilfred and Rosella (Norwood) Therrien.

She grew up in Lebanon, where she attended local schools.

She was a very witty woman who always liked to joke that although she had not finished her formal education, she had graduated from the school of hard knocks. When she was a young woman, she had modeled professionally in the Boston area for several years.

Darlene was a very creative woman who enjoyed doing crafts, growing flowers and making flower arrangements. She always made it a point to keep a nice home. Family was important to Darlene, she particularly enjoyed her nieces and nephews. She was a fun-loving aunt and liked to play with the children in her family when they would visit. She was an animal lover and had several dogs, cats and birds throughout her life. She especially loved her dogs, Bud and Goliath.

Darlene had been very happy the past several years after meeting the love of her life, Jeff McCabe who passed away several months ago. She will be remembered as a kind and loving woman, who was devoted to her family, and will be dearly missed.

Darlene was preceded in death by: her fiancé, Jeff McCabe; her sister, Sheila Blake; and her grandmother, Effie L. Norwood.

Surviving are: her parents, Wilfred and Rosella Therrien of Lebanon; eight siblings, Sharon Dockham and her husband Robert, Daniel Therrien, Alan Therrien and his wife Janet, all of Lebanon, Wilfred “Bill” Therrien III of Sanford, Pamela Beach and her husband Greg of Alaska, Wendy Therrien of Acton, Bethany Matthews and her husband Ed of Strafford, N.H. and Elaina Searles and her husband Randy of Brownsville; her special nephew, Ryan Therrien of Lebanon; 23 other nieces and nephews; 23 great-nieces and great-nephews; and one great-great-niece.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Thursday, Feb. 13 at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, located at 580 Main St. in Springvale. Interment will be held in the spring at the Milton Mills Cemetery, located in Milton Mills, N.H. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Animal Welfare Society, Inc., P.O.
