Swimmers from across southern Maine gathered in both Westbrook and Cape Elizabeth for a two-day competition this past weekend, Friday and Saturday the 7th and 8th of Feb. Southwesterns, the sport’s lead-in to States, are divided tongue-tyingly into “South Southwesterns” and “North Southwesterns,” the latter of which took place at Cape’s Richards Community Pool. The boys kicked off Friday night, and perennial performers Cheverus took top honors.
Cape Elizabeth head coach Ben Raymond approved of his boys’ meet. “It’s going, so far, so well. We had some good swims in the 50, good swim in the 200 IM – Jordan [Petersen] did well.”
Raymond enjoys Southwesterns as warm-up for States. “It’s a good way to see some quality competition, and to get kids into a championship kind of meet who may not qualify for the State meet.”
