“Muslim-Catholic Dialogue and the Challenge of America’s Polity, Values and Culture,” a lecture by Dr. Daniel P. Sheridan, will be presented at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, on Whites Bridge Road in Standish on Wednesday, Feb. 5, as the school’s second Cultural Affairs Series event of 2014. Sheridan is a professor of theology at the college. His presentation addresses how Catholics and Muslims in Western Europe and North America face similar issues as the transcendent claims of their faiths are called into question. United in dialogue, Sheridan says, the two faiths can share how they live with and thrive in a culture of secular polity. The presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. in Saint Joseph’s College’s Viola George Auditorium, in Harold Alfond Hall. The event is free and open to the public. The Cultural Affairs Series continues with two additional events: “All Standing: The True Story of Hunger, Rebellion and Survival Aboard the Jeanie Johnston,” with author Kathryn Miles on March 19, and “Baseball: The Writers’ Sport,” with Saint Joseph’s professor of English Dr. Edward Rielly, March 31. Saint Joseph’s College is Maine’s only Catholic liberal arts college. For more information, visit www.sjcme.edu.
