With a nomination to the 2014 McDonald’s All American High School Basketball Team, Dustin Cole of Bonny Eagle High School has been recognized as one of the top high school basketball standouts in the nation. Cole was presented with his nomination certificate by Taylor Goble, manager of the Westbrook McDonald’s, prior to the start of Bonny Eagle High School’s home game on Jan. 24.
Cole is one of just two players nominated for the honor in Maine. He is among the nearly 1,000 nominees from 44 states competing nationwide to fill one of 24 positions on the Boys Team. Nominees were selected by high school coaches, athletic directors, principals and members of the McDonald’s All American Games Selection Committee.
Isaiah Bess of Hampden Academy also received a McDonald’s All-American High School Basketball Team nomination. (A complete list of 2014 McDonald’s All American Games Nominees is available at www.mcdaag.com.)
The final roster of 24 boys and 24 girls who will be selected to play in the 2014 Games will be announced during the McDonald’s All American Games Selection Show on ESPNU on Jan. 29 at 6 p.m.
“Maine has a history of elite basketball talent and the nomination of Dustin Cole signifies the hard work and dedication of our young student-athletes. They contribute to their schools, the community and the game,” said Goble. “The McDonald’s All American Games have long been the top showcase of national basketball talent, and it’s an honor to have players from our area under consideration to be selected.”
The 37th annual boys game will tip off on Wednesday, April 2, at 8:30 p.m. (Central Time) from Chicago’s United Center and will be broadcast on ESPN. The 13th annual girls game will precede the boys game, beginning at 6 p.m. (CT) and will broadcast live on ESPNU.
Net proceeds from the games benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities. The games have raised more than $10 million for RMHC.
