A 23-year-old University of Southern Maine student is facing multiple charges following a standoff with police at a fraternity house in Gorham Village on Jan. 22.
Police seized two handguns in a search of the off-campus fraternity house on School Street.
Lt. Christopher Sanborn of the Gorham Police Department reported on Thursday that Alan-Michael Santos, of Wilmington, Mass., was arrested on charges of aggravated reckless conduct, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, terrorizing and creating a police standoff.
Santos was taken to Cumberland County Jail and bail was set at $15,000 cash. A spokesman at the jail said Santos was due in court at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24.
Police said that Santos had returned to the Sigma Nu fraternity house on School Street after being asked to leave a local Gorham business. Santos allegedly confronted with a handgun a fraternity member, who went to his room to check on him.
Fraternity members evacuated the building and called police shortly after 7 p.m., according to the report. Police surrounded the fraternity house and nearby downtown businesses were evacuated.
Sanborn said in the report that Santos agreed to leave the fraternity house peacefully after several hours of negotiating.
Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department and Windham and Westbrook police departments assisted Gorham police at the scene.
