Veterans Say Thanks

The Windham Veterans Association sincerely thanks the Lake Pine Association, on behalf of all the members of American Legion Post 148 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10643, for their recent most generous financial donation. A portion of this donation will be used toward paving the large parking lot at the WVA hall. All the veterans appreciate this thoughtful contribution.

American Legion Auxiliary

All ladies interested in starting an American Legion Auxiliary are invited to attend an information meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Windham Veterans Center, The Legion Field-Allen Post will host a 5 p.m. social and dinner and a very brief Post business meeting. Following the business meeting there will be a presentation by state and district level Ladies Auxiliary staff on the opportunities and requirements for establishing an American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Thanks from Neighbors

Windham Neighbors Helping Neighbors has received generous donations from the following, to help with WNHN efforts to provide one-time emergency fuel to qualified residents. Blues Concert

Music with a Mission will present a bluegrass quartet called Jerks of Grass, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the North Windham Union Church. Fiddler Melissa Bragdon of Windham will be featured. Tickets are $12 and $10 at the door.

Making a Living

The Windham Public Library received a grant from the Maine Humanities Council and is offering “Making a living, making a life”, a Let’s Talk About It program, starting Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 6:15 p.m. The series will examine “work-related issues: women in the work force, a changing workplace, employment as identity, the Puritan work ethic and the American Dream.” The programs will be held in place of the regular Book Group meetings on the last Tuesdays of each month. Cancer Support Meeting

Windham Cancer Support Group will meet on Monday, Jan. 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the library on Windham Center Road. Call 892-7750 if the weather is bad – if the library is open, the group will meet. This is an informal gathering for all cancer survivors and caregivers and provides support and education and a setting of confidentiality. Check the Facebook page for more information.

Chili Challenge

Windham’s Community Garden and all of us will benefit from the Chili Challenge planned for Saturday, Feb. 1, at the North Windham Union Church. More than a half-ton of produce from the garden goes directly to the Windham Food Pantry where it is shared with others – we are all grateful for this tremendous generosity. The Chili Challenge is a chance to get out in the wintertime and warm up by sampling the recipes of the area’s best cooks. Proceeds benefit the Garden. You can sample chili from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the North Windham Union Church. Tasters may pay at the door, $7 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Windham Land Trust

Windham Land Trust meets the first Wednesday of every month at the Windham Public Library. The meetings start at 7 p.m. and everyone is welcome to attend. The next meeting is Feb. 5. Visit their website, www.thewindhamlandtrust.org, to find out more.

Tweens and Teens
