A No Go for the Snow?

As I write this I am wondering if tonight’s predicted North Eastern Blizzard will skip right over us? Down south, a.k.a. Massachusetts and the New York area, are forecasted to receive the brunt of the mess, perhaps a foot? I think this time we will be spared! Some people crave the snow (ski areas, snowmobilers and school-aged kids), while some dread it and wonder why? I fall into the latter category. Which one are you in? Is it that black and white? I’d love to hear your thoughts, email me if you want to chime in.

He Likes Ice

Unlike most of us, Naples resident Benn Breton isn’t afraid of a little ice. How could he be, his livelihood depends on it. Breton, along with his business partner, Rich Cubin, who he met while in the military, started the very successful Rink Specialists, seven years ago.

You may be familiar with his work if you’ve visited Frozen Fenway, the ice rink installed by the partner’s company at Fenway Park in Boston. Breton, a Maine native from Lisbon, had been interested in hockey for quite some time. While in the military he took a side job at an ice rink. Right out of the military, he and Cubin signed on as the general managers of a rink in Virginia. From there the partners started their company servicing local ice rinks. Today, their business has flourished with Rink Specialists which now includes three businesses and operates three outdoor NHL-sized rinks and four smaller outdoor skating rinks. Oh, and did I mention he built the portable ice rink featured in the recent Anchorman 2 movie? Way to go Rink Specialists! Congratulations and continued success. Finding a niche in business and doing it right, the way Rink Specialists did, is the way to do it. For more information, photos and videos, visit Rink Specialist’s Facebook page.

Lake Region Middle School is Moving

The students, that is! The school has implemented a walk and talk session to the lunch times allowing students to socialize while squeezing in a little exercise. Great idea, a brisk walk is a great way to stimulate the body and the mind.

Naples Winter Carnival

The Naples Winter Carnival Committee has decided not to hold its annual Winter Carnival this year. Instead they will put their efforts into two Poker Run snowmobile rallies, teaming up with the Casco club. “Like” the Naples Winter Carnival Facebook page to receive updates on these two events held, as always, weather permitting.
