BIDDEFORD — Alexander André “Andy” Bergeron, 85, of Biddeford, died peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014 at St. Andre’s Healthcare in Biddeford, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Biddeford on April 22, 1928, a son of Alexandre and Emelia (Houde) Bergeron.

He attended St. Andre School and St. Louis High School in Biddeford.

Andy served our country in the United States Navy for seven years during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

On July 2, 1955, he married Viola Walsh at Notre Dame de Lourdes Church in Saco.

Andy worked for three years with Raymond J. Gosselin Masonry. He then went on to work as an apprentice pipefitter at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he worked for 23 years, retiring as a planner/estimator in 1985.

He was a member of the Fremont Club and also former past president and secretary. He was also a member of the NAARFE.

Andy enjoyed genealogy and doing things on his computer.

He was preceded in death by: two brothers, Patrick and Oscar Bergeron; and two sisters, Georgette Parent and Simone Grenier.

Andy is survived by: his wife of 58 years, Viola Bergeron of Biddeford; two sons, Richard G. Bergeron, esq. and his spouse Shaun Terrill of Arlington, Va. and Steven P. Bergeron of Biddeford; one daughter, Sandra M. Bergeron of Portland; one brother, George M. Bergeron of Biddeford; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Andre’s Healthcare for the kindness and care that they gave to Andy.

Visiting hours will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 at Hope Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014 at Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014 at noon. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005.
