Diamond to run for Maine Senate
Bill Diamond, of Windham, announced Monday that he is running for the State Senate in District 26, which includes the towns of Windham, Standish, Raymond, Casco, Baldwin and Frye Island.
Diamond, who is a former Maine Secretary of State, served in the Maine Senate from 2004-2012 until he was term-limited.
“The political fighting in Augusta must end if our state is to move forward,” said Diamond in a press release on the announcement. “I understand the issues we face and have a record of working with people of all political persuasions for my district and our state.”
Diamond authored “The Evil and the Innocent,” a book about children who have been or are being sexually abused.
Diamond is also a local businessman who has founded or co-founded six small businesses in the Windham area since 1980.
Diamond is also a former teacher and school administrator in Windham and Raymond. In 2008, he initiated and co-founded Windham Neighbors Helping Neighbors, a local volunteer organization that raises funds from donations to buy heating fuel for local people who have no other options to stay warm during the coldest months of the year.
“Protecting and rescuing sexually abused children, improving health care opportunities for everyone, developing a state budget that keeps taxes down – especially local property taxes – supporting local education and assisting small businesses so they can succeed are my top priorities,” Diamond said.
Chalmers announces new leadership
Chalmers Insurance Group, one of the region’s largest independent insurance agencies, has named Steven Cote, of Conway, N.H., as its president. Cote joined Chalmers in 2000 and formerly served as president of Chalmers’ New Hampshire operations.
Bruce Chalmers, who had served as president of the agency that has been owned by his family for nearly 100 years, will retain an “of counsel” role in the agency and will also serve as chairman of the board of directors. His brother, William “Bill” Chalmers, will also be “of counsel” and serve as Treasurer of the Board.
“It is a tremendous honor to have been tapped by Bill and Bruce Chalmers to serve as our organization’s next president,” said Cote. “Our new leadership team is excited about the challenges ahead. We are committed to taking the strategic steps necessary to assure that the Chalmers Insurance Group remains independently owned and family operated for the next generation and beyond.”
