The State Fire Marshal’s Office has charged a man from Gray with burning down the mobile home he recently lived in.

According to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland, the fire was reported about 2 a.m. Thursday morning, Jan. 16. Investigators arrested 50-year-old Paul M. “Charlie” Barry and charged him with arson and burglary. Investigators say Barry was evicted from the home on Dec. 1, and had been living elsewhere in Gray with a friend.

The mobile home, which was destroyed, was owned by a former friend of Barry. Barry returned to the fire scene at mid-morning smelling of gasoline and was arrested after he was interviewed by Fire Marshal investigators.

Barry is being held without bail at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland and will make his first court appearance either Friday or Tuesday.
