GIRLS
1. Thornton Academy: Finished second behind Bangor at the Class A state meet, but by a half-point. The Trojans lost Carly McKenna to an injury but still bring back a wealth of underclass talent, as well as senior leaders Amanda Arnold and junior Tori Daigle.
2. Bonny Eagle: Placed third at the Class A meet last year. The Scots still have a wealth of underclassmen who bring scoring potential, plus senior sprinter Audrey Weyand.
3. Cheverus: Finished fourth at the Class A meet last year but brings back a cadre of talent.
4. Brunswick: Lost sprinting standout Alison Hill to graduation but looks to improve on last year’s fifth-place finish at the Class A meet.
5. Greely: With Kirstin Sandreuter leading in the distance events, the Rangers should make a run at the Class B state title.
BOYS
1. Scarborough: The Red Storm won last year by just four points but have a number of returning underclassmen who scored.
2. Cheverus: Finished second at the Class A state meet last year by a wide margin and should be a front-runner again.
3. York: After taking the Class B title each of the past two years, can’t be discounted as a contender.
4. Greely: With Falmouth moving into Class A and a number of talented returning point-getters from the Class B state meet, Greely should be in the mix for the state championship.
5. Brunswick: Has a lot of young talent and should move up from last year’s fifth-place finish at the Class A state meet.
