Stu graduated from Summit High school in Summit, N.J., and went on to receive a B.A. as an English major from Franklin Marshall College in 1969. He married Victoria DeMarseliis in 1972. They later divorced but remained great friends.
He began his career at Sears, Roebuck & Co in Connecticut before progressing to the home office at the Sears Tower in Chicago, Ill. In 1981 Stu relocated his family to Maine where he continued advancing his career thriving at L.L. Bean. He retired as the vice president of the International Division in 2002 working with “Beans” for over 20 years. After retirement Stu devoted much of his time proudly serving on the Friend’s Board of Directors for the Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick.
Stu had a zest for life and adventure accompanied by a great sense of humor. He was a true animal lover owning many dogs throughout his life. Some were rescue dogs. Stu was fascinated and intrigued by airplanes and held his pilot’s license for many years. He cherished his lakeside cabins and loved sharing them with others. He taught his children to waterski there, hosted family reunions as well as high school classmate reunions and showed his colleagues from Japan that Maine is the way life should be. He loved exploring and traveling which he did extensively for L.L. Bean and also with friends and family.
Stu was a kind soul and thoughtful person as well as the self appointed “caretaker” for the seasonal homes in his close knit neighborhood of Harpswell. He was a devoted and proud father.
Stu is survived by his children Kevin McGeorge of Richmond, ME, Jessica McGeorge Fedor of Orange, CT, his sister Sally McGeorge of Olmsted, OH, his brother Doug McGeorge of Tuscon, AZ and his partner of many years, Suzanne Reeb, and predeceased by his sister Marsha Hardy.
There will be a memorial service after the first of the year which will be later announced. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Brackett Funeral Home in Brunswick.
