Bailey joins Cutler campaign

Kyle Bailey of Gorham has joined the gubernatorial campaign of Eliot Cutler, an independent, as a fundraising strategist.

The Cutler campaign announcement said that Bailey, who was elected to the Gorham School Committee last month, is a seasoned political activist and fundraiser. A University of Georgia graduate, Bailey is pursuing a master’s degree in community planning at the University of Southern Maine.

Smith named as GBE director

Leigh-Paige Smith has succeeded Dede Perkins as the Gorham Business Exchange’s executive director, said Becky Winslow, president of the organization.

“Dede decided to step down, she was a great asset to the GBE for five years,” Winslow said. “Her own business is growing, so gave her notice a while back.”

Perkins praised Smith this week.

“She’s working hard, and I think she’s going to do a great job for GBE,” said Perkins, owner of A Few Good Words, a business writing company.

Prom committee wrapping gifts

The Gorham High School Prom Committee will hold a gift-wrapping fundraiser from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, in the school’s cafeteria. Christina P. Stone, a teacher, said the group would not have a gift-wrapping fundraiser session on Saturday, Dec. 14, as earlier planned.

‘Many Moods of Christmas’ concert

The Casco Bay Concert Band will perform “The Many Moods of Christmas,” at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, in the McCormack Performing Arts Center at Gorham High School, 41 Morrill Ave.

The program includes traditional and new arrangements of holiday songs, and also features a reading of “The Night Before Christmas” and a silent auction.

Free USM choral concert

The Chamber singers at the University of Southern Maine will celebrate the holiday season with its annual concert at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 133 Pleasant St., Portland. Donations will be accepted.

Christmas in the Barn

Faith Lutheran Church in Windham is holding its annual “Christmas in the Barn” at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Hartwell Farm, 443 Sebago Lake Road (Route 237), Gorham.

Town Councilor Benjamin Hartwell, whose family owns the farm, said animals would include horses, cows and goats. The event is free and open to the public.

To reach the farm, from Westbrook and Gorham, take Route 237 from Route 25 and continue on Route 237 past the roundabout in Little Falls. From Standish and Windham, turn onto Route 237 from Route 35 and go about one mile.

Church Christmas concert

The Little Falls Baptist and the Russian Baptist churches in Gorham are teaming up to celebrate Christmas with a concert. They are hosting a traditional Christmas concert at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, at Little Falls Baptist Church, 746 Gray Road.

Gifts for women in crisis

Cindy Elder, an organizer of a program at South Gorham Baptist Church combating human trafficking, is spearheading a drive to collect donated gifts for women in crisis in the Greater Portland area.

The drive stems from the monthly church speaker series “Potluck with a Purpose.” Suggested gifts for women include personal hygiene items, scarves, gloves, hats and mittens. Elder said the gifts are being collected at the church.

“Our goal is to reach out and let these women know people care about them,” Elder said.

The Bureau of Public Debt reported on Dec. 5 that the U.S. public debt was $17,228,699,889,181.63.
