Atwood receives health-care leadership award

Catching Health, a health and wellness blog and events calendar written and maintained by Diane Atwood of Gorham, recently won a gold eHealthcare Leadership Award in the category of Best Social Networking.

Atwood writes the Keep Me Healthy column for Maine Women Magazine.

Awards were presented on Nov. 6 during the 17th annual Healthcare Internet Conference in New Orleans. Entries were judged based on a standard of Internet/digital communications excellence and how they compared with others in their organization’s classification.

Catching Health’s award was in the Consumer General Site Division. Gold Award winners in other divisions, e.g., hospitals and healthcare systems, included Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins Medicine and The Nebraska Medical Center.

“Catching Health was up against some pretty heavy hitters from around the country,” Atwood said. “When I found out that it had won a gold, I was thrilled. Since its launch in 2011, the blog has steadily gained recognition as a trusted source of health and wellness information not only in Maine, but also New England and now, nationally. The real gold, though, is when people me tell that what I’ve written has made a difference in their lives. That’s what I love the most.”

The eHealthcare Leadership Awards recognize the best websites and digital communications efforts of healthcare-related organizations around the country. This year, some 250 winners were selected from more than 1,100 entries, which were judged by 121 individuals familiar with healthcare and the Internet. The Awards program was developed and first presented 14 years ago by eHealthcare Strategy & Trends, a leading industry resource published by Health Care Communications, Rye, N.Y.
