Triad meeting
The Gorham/Westbrook Triad will meet at 9-10 a.m., on Friday, Oct. 11, at the Gorham Municipal Center, 75 South St. Triad is a collaborative effort of seniors, law enforcement and community service providers who working to promote safety and well-being of senior citizens. The public is welcome to attend.
‘Night Sky’ on USM stage
A production of “Night Sky” opens the theater season this month in Russell Hall on the Gorham campus at the University of Southern Maine.
Anna, the lead character, is a successful astronomer who has dedicated her career to researching dark matter and black holes in the universe and to articulating abstract ideas. When she develops aphasia, a disorder caused by damage to the brain’s language centers, her ability to read, write and speak is handicapped.
Subsequently, Anna must explore the “black holes” in the functioning of her own mind and the communication breakdowns with her teenage daughter, Jennifer, and her live-in boyfriend Daniel, a struggling opera singer, while never giving up on her geophysics research.
The cast includes Alyssa Rojecki (doctor, ensemble roles) of Gorham.
Show times and dates are: 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10; 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11; 2 p.m. ($5 show) and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12; and 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13. Tickets prices are $15; $11 for seniors, USM alumni and employees; $8 for students; and a special $5 2 p.m. matinee on Oct. 12.

Seeking participants for kids marathon
Phil Gagnon said Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine in Portland is seeking volunteers to help set up its “Kids’ Maine Marathon Mile” on Saturday, Oct. 5 in Portland. The race is part of the Maine Marathon activities. Kids ages 7-12 are invited to run with Big Brothers Big Sisters. Woman’s club to meet
Gorham Woman’s Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, at First Parish Congregational Church on Church Street in Gorham. A potluck luncheon will precede the program: “Mind Challenges and Laughter.” Old and new members are welcome.
USM music master class set
The University of Southern Maine School of Music will present a master class with Delores Ziegler, mezzo-soprano, at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, in Corthell Concert Hall, on the Gorham Campus. Ziegler’s career has taken her to every major theater in the world and into collaboration with prominent directors and conductors. In her master class, Ziegler will work with USM vocal students and will provide critical feedback and technical instruction.

Local entertainer Dave Stone recently became the first to play the new, baby grand digital piano at Gorham House, 50 New Portland Road. Staff and residents raised funds to buy the piano, said Donna Davis, a staff member at the comprehensive living facility.
