Beginning with singing and ending with tasting, two annual events that benefit a local food pantry and soup kitchen are scheduled for the coming weekend.
The second annual “Singing for Their Supper” benefit is 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 27, at Frontier Café at Fort Andross, followed Saturday, Sept. 28, by the Taste of Brunswick on the Mall.
Through ticket sales, food sales and donations, both events benefit Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program, a nonprofit organization that feeds thousands of hungry people in the Mid-coast region.
Singing for their Supper begins Friday with The Alternate Routes and Pete Kilpatrick.
Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 at the door, and can be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com.
Music will continue Saturday during the Taste of Brunswick, which begins at 11 a.m. and brings together many of the town’s bestknown restaurants — including Bombay Mahal, The Great Impasta, Sea Dog Brewing, — underneath a tent to offer selections from their respective menus.
Maine favorites Amy Allen, The Ghost of Paul Revere and Spencer Albee will take the stage starting at 11 a.m., followed by The Alternate Routes at 2:45 p.m.
Adult tickets are $22 in advance, $25 at the door; $10 for children 10 and under, and can be purchased at www.brunswickdowntown.co m/TOB.
Saturday’s event is a collaboration between Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program and the Brunswick Downtown Association, a coalition of village-area retailers that organizes special events to promote all of the town’s businesses. After an ill-fated attempt to reschedule the event from autumn to earlysummer, low participation persuaded the BDA to keep Taste of Brunswick as a fall spectacle.
