LEWISTON — Lyceum Gallery, 49 Lisbon St., will be hosting “An Evening of Classics,” today, Sept. 20, at 7:30 p.m. This musical event is a fundraiser for the Patrick Dempsey Center and will feature local cellist, Daniel Rand, the art work of Auburn painter Michael Ranucci, and an interlude with champagne and dessert.

Rand, a recent graduate of Bowling Green State University, began studying cello when he was 9 years old. He has played with the Bowling Green Philharmonic, the Dearborn (Mich.) Symphony Orchestra, and as principal cellist for the Terra Community College Orchestra in Fremont/ Sandusky, Ohio. In the summer of 2008, Rand was accepted as a strings teaching assistant at the Interlochen Summer Arts Academy in Interlochen, Mich.

He recently performed as a soloist at the Make Music Portland Music Festival and at the Auburn Festival Plaza. After one season with the Midcoast Symphony, Rand is currently playing with the Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra under the direction Professor Robert Lehman and now works as a solo artist.

Ranucci is one of the resident artists of Lyceum Gallery. Twenty pieces of his classical still life paintings and “old masters” style are the perfect compliment to Rand’s music.

All proceeds from “An Evening of Classics” will go to the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing, which provides free support, education and integrative medicine services to anyone impacted by cancer.

Tickets are $30 or $50 per couple and can be purchased in advance at Lyceum Gallery or by contacting Tammie Grieshaber at 576-4805.
