Bowdoin College ranked fourth, along with two other schools, and Bates and Colby colleges tied at No. 22 in the latest U.S. News & World Report national liberal arts college rankings, released Tuesday.
The news magazine profiled some 1,800 schools for its 2014 rankings, which took into consideration acceptance rates, strength of faculty and average student debt, among many other factors.
The University of Maine Orono was ranked 167 among national universities, a list topped by Princeton.
In the list of northern regional colleges, Maine Maritime Academy came in at No. 7, University of Maine Fort Kent was 39 and the University of Maine Presque Isle was 41.
In the list of northern regional universities, the University of New England in Biddeford ranked 87, rising seven spots.
