AUGUSTA — Jane Allison Morse, 96, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2013, at the Hospice House in Auburn after a brief illness.

She was born in Augusta on August 4, 1917, the youngest child of Edward Leeman Ripley and Alice (Cony) Ripley.

She grew up on the Cony Road, enjoying a lively childhood with her siblings, Phyllis, Walter and Robert, all of whom preceded her in death.

She graduated from Cony High School in 1935. Jane enjoyed dancing and attended many dances, some with her father, who loved to dance as well. She was well known for her sense of humor and beautiful smile.

Jane was very much ahead of the times. She married young and had three daughters, Marjorie, Patricia and Ruth. Ruth only survived five days. When the marriage ended, Jane went to work as a single mother. She worked at the Cony High School cafeteria and also was employed with the Maine Internal Revenue Service and the Maine Tuberculosis Control.

While at a dance, Jane met Kenneth Edwin Morse of Bath, a younger man, who became her husband. They married at 39 years of age and she presented him with a daughter named Nancy. They were married for 45 years until Kenneth’s death in June of 2001.

Jane loved animals and owned cats and dogs all her life. She also liked to cook, play the piano and loved to reminisce about time spent with her family. She also enjoyed driving until the age of eighty-eight.

Jane is survived by her daughters, Marjorie Perkins of Brunswick, Patricia Marvin of East Winthrop and Nancy Morse of Augusta; three granddaughters, Cynthia Henry of Pensacola, Fla., Wendy Conklin of Muncie, Ind., and Marjorie Marvin of Portland; seven great-grandchildren and four greatgreat grandchildren. Also, she had a 75-year friendship with William Pinette of Augusta and Maegan Potter of Augusta. She thanks both of them for their friendship.
