She was born in Brunswick on Oct. 28, 1924, a daughter of Alpha and Malvina Poulin and was educated in St. John’s School.
On May 4, 1946, she married Gerard J. Doyon and made their home in Brunswick.
Irene worked at Cabot’s Mill and later provided daycare in her home.
She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and loved gardening, bowling, crafts, knitting, playing the piano, family barbecues and hosting Thanksgiving meals.
Irene is predeceased by her husband, Gerard, who died March 23, 1987; a son, Louis Doyon; three brothers, Joseph, Peter and Armand; three sisters, Della Devine, Florence Blanchette and Rose Poitras; and longtime companion Richard Brawn.
She is survived by a son, Henry Doyon and his wife, Theresa of Howland; daughter in-law Viola Doyon of Scarborough; five grandchildren,Courtney Macilvain of PA, Kyle Doyon of CA, Marissa Feldman of NY, Michelle Doyon of NH and Morgan Doyon of ME; eight greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10, at Demers-Desmond Funeral Home, 34 Cushing St., Brunswick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at All Saints Parish, St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery.
