OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Current Kennebunkport Town Manager Larry Mead is slated to become the Old Orchard Beach town manager in September.

The announcement was made at Tuesday night’s town council meeting, during which Chairman Shawn O’Neil said the council unanimously picked Mead as its top choice for the position, and will vote him in at the council’s Aug. 20 meeting.

Mead is scheduled to begin the position on Sept. 16, and according to a press release from the town, his annual salary will be $105,000.

“Larry brings a wealth of experience in municipal management and a proven track record of leadership, accomplishment and integrity during his career in Maine local government,” said O’Neil.

Mead and his wife were in attendance at the meeting.

“It’s very exciting to be here,” he said, adding that when he and his wife moved to Old Orchard Beach a little over a year ago, he hoped to some day be town manager.

Mead said he wanted to help make Old Orchard the best community it can be.

“Old Orchard Beach is a world-class community,” he said, with assets that no other community has and a rich history in tradition.

“I’m anxious to get started,” he said.

Mead said he tends to stay in positions for long periods of time. He has been the town manager in Kennebunkport for nearly seven years, and worked for the City of Portland for more than 25 years,  including eight years as assistant city manager.
