GEORGETOWN — The 100th annual Georgetown Working League fair will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Georgetown School, 52 Bay Point Road. The popular fair is the oldest in the state.

Among the offerings are bargains at the white elephant, jewelry and collectibles areas. The fair is also known for excellent home baked goods.

Working League members spend the winter sewing numerous items and making a quilt to raffle. There are handmade children’s clothes, 18-inch doll clothes, table runners, potholders, balsam bags and much more at the gift boutique.

Raffle tickets will be sold for this year’s quilt, “Maine’s Bounty.” The drawing will be held at Georgetown Wharf on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 2 p.m.

Noted local artists and artisans will be selling their work at the fair and there will also be craft demonstrations. Two paintings by prominent local artist Charles Goodhue will be offered for sale.

The entertainment tent will have live music and storytelling. For lunch, there’s lobster or turkey salad with pasta salad and blueberry cake (homemade, of course.) Hot dogs and veggie burgers will also be available. Kids can enjoy their own area with continuous activities throughout the day.

To celebrate 100 years of annual fairs, League members will present a centennial fashion show with fashions from 1913 to 2013 followed by a 100th birthday party with cake for all.

Admission is free and it is fully accessible.

All proceeds from the rain or shine event benefit the town of Georgetown and local scholarships.
