BRUNSWICK — Recently there has been some confusion about a FairPoint Communications telephone program that also uses “Lifeline” in its name, called the Fairpoint Lifeline Program.
This program is not connected to the Mid Coast Lifeline Services Program — which has provided a vital connection to emergency services for hundreds of elderly residents in the Greater Brunswick area over the past 30 years — or to other emergency response systems.
The FairPoint Lifeline Program is part of a federal program that helps reduce the cost of certain customers’ basic monthly local telephone service.
Because of the confusion over the similar names of the two different programs, the Maine Public Utilities Commission has set up a consumer hotline to answer questions. Call 1-(800) 452-4699 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. for help and information.
