BOWDOINHAM — The Merrymeeting Arts Center in Bowdoinham is holding an auction of lighthouse lawn ornaments painted by local artists. The fundraiser will be held on Sunday, Aug. 4, from 1 to 3 p.m. in conjunction with its current show, “Every Maine Lighthouse: 65 paintings by Ernest DeRaps.”

Robin Brooks, Angela Kimberk, Ernest DeRaps, Mathew O’Donnell, Sara Cox, Gracia Woodward, Julia MacDonald, Georgia Ahlers, Jo Mussomeli and others have each taken a prepared 4-foot-high wooden board shaped like a lighthouse and created whimsical and delightful lawn ornament fantasies.

The lighthouses can be viewed at the arts center (9 Main St., Bowdoinham, down by the river) on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or online at www.merrymeetingartscenter.org (pictures will be posted as artists complete them).

Attendees of the silent auction will get a number and list their bids on the bid sheets. The bids for ornaments will start at $50. Proceeds from this fundraiser will provide ongoing support for the arts center, now in its seventh year.

The arts center is open during the summer on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sundays 1 to 4 p.m., by appointment. For more information, call 666-3426.
