The 6 p.m. event features Saltwater’s 2013 Writer in Residence in the library’s Morrell Meeting Room.
An author and medieval historian, de Fougerolles has extensive connections to New England and Celtic culture and history.
“What started as a love affair with Celtic myths and legends as a child evolved into a dedicated pursuit to understand and communicate the early history of Celtic speaking peoples,” according to a news release form the library.
“ T h e Chronicles of Iona: Exile” tells the story of the Irish monk and Scottish warrior, Saint Columba and Aedan mac Gabran, who would band together to lay the foundation of the nation of Scotland. They were a real-life 6th-century Merlin and King Arthur and their story has never been told. de Fougerolles is the recipient of the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship and has a doctorate in medieval history from the University of Cambridge.
She will present an author talk and read selections from her books. She will also be hosting the Saltwater Lit Tent and is a featured author on the Saltwater Books and Pubs Tour.
The Saltwater Celtic Music Festival will be held at Thomas Point Beach this weekend, July 20-21.
The author event is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase.
