NEWCASTLE — Heartwood Theater will premiere “The Legend of Jim Cullen,” a story based on real events from northern Maine in 1873.
The legend hums with original music, performed by several talented musicians, including a young fiddle player from California — Avery Merritt, 17, who is considered a true protege on the violin.
Opening July 19, “The Legend of Jim Cullen” is funded in part by a grant from the Maine Community Foundation, along with sponsorships from Bath Savings Institution, First Advisors and the Newcastle Publick House.
Performances will take place in the air conditioned Parker B. Poe Theater at Lincoln Academy July 19, 20, 26 and 27, and Aug. 1-3 at 7:30 p.m.
One matinee performance will take place — 3 p.m. Sunday, July 28. Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for students. Reservations strongly recommended at boxoffice@heartwoodtheater.org or 563-1373.
