Bath Shakespeare Festival, a fully professional theater, announces its inaugural season with performances of Twelfth Night, which will take place in Bath’s City Park from July 20 through Aug. 4.
The performances are presented in conjunction with Patten Free Library.
This production will feature professional actors from Maine and across the country, staged with beautiful costumes and lush scenery.
Some consider Twelfth Night Shakespeare’s greatest comedy. It is the ultimate comedy of mistaken identity, in which a girl disguises herself as a man to be near the Count she adores, only to be pursued by the woman he loves — and whom he has asked her to woo on his behalf. It is perfect outing for families, with its outrageous story and unforgettable characters.
“We are pleased to offer this production to Bath and the Mid-coast,” says director Stephen Legawiec, “and are privileged to join the already thriving arts community that exists in Bath. The festival is committed to maintaining the highest standards of artistic excellence and we plan to present professional Shakespeare in this community for many years to come.
“Expanding the arts scene by adding a professional company will not only be a delight for theaterlovers, but will bring new business to local merchants from both audiences and the festival itself.”
Legawiec adds, “I chose Twelfth Night to introduce our company to Bath because it is both hilarious and romantic, and has a great deal of music that we will be performing live. Comedy, love, music — what more could you ask for? Even newcomers to Shakespeare will be delighted.”
The cast features Lily Ali-Oshatz, Patrick Brady, Chris Douglass, Jacob W. de Heer Erpelding, David Greenham, Xander Johnson, Tom Marion, Kerry Ipema and Dana Wieluns.
The artistic personnel is as follows: Direction by Stephen Legawiec; movement by Dana Wieluns Legawiec; voice coaching by Tom Marion; costumes designed by Joan Mather.
