SCARBOROUGH – The Scarborough Public Library will resume its summer story time schedule beginning Tuesday, July 2, and ending Saturday, Aug. 17.
Baby Lapsit for age birth to 18 months will be offered every Tuesday at 9:30 am in the Library Meeting Room. Youth Services staff member, Marilyn Taylor, will offer nursery rhymes, movement activities, songs, and finger play.
Toddler Time for age 18 months and up will take place every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Library Meeting Room. Marilyn will also present this program of picture books, rhymes, songs, and movement.
Every Thursday at 10:30 a.m., Youth Staff member, Lauren Isele, will present Family Story Time in the Amphitheater. Appropriate for age 3 to 7, this story time encourages all family members to share a love for reading. As an added bonus, Lauren has invited some special guests to join her.
On Thursday, July 18, Lauren will be joined by Grace, a therapy dog. Therapy dogs are trained to offer comfort to people in hospitals, retirement and nursing homes, as well as schools. Many are also use as reading therapy dogs to help children who struggle with reading aloud.
Scarborough Police Chief Robert Moulton will join Lauren on Thursday, July 25, and will bring one of the town’s police cars with him.
Michael Thurlow, Scarborough’s fire chief, will bring a fire truck to the library for his story time on Aug. 1, and Mike Shaw, director of Scarborough Public Works, will share a story and bring a large dump truck for story time on August 8.
Every Saturday at 10:30 a.m., Lauren will also offer Read to Me in the Amphitheater for age 3 and up. This story time is great for families that can’t get to the Library during the week.
The library will also continue its monthly PAJAMARAMA! on Tuesday, July 9, and Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 6:30 p.m. for children age 4 and up. They are encouraged to wear their favorite PJs for this fun hour filled with stories and a fun craft.
