THE YING QUARTER
“Around the World in 40 Days” starts in Brunswick this week when more than 250 musicians from 25 countries arrive to study, teach and perform at the Bowdoin International Music Festival.
Performing artists will present more than 90 concerts across the state during this year’s six-week festival, celebrating classical music from around the world under the theme “Around the World in Forty Days.”
From solo recitals and master classes to chamber concerts and fullscale orchestral performances, music lovers will be serenaded with a wealth of traditional and contemporary classical music.

The week continues with an Artists of Tomorrow student concert Thursday and the first Festival Fridays concert on June 28.
Festival mainstays, the renowned Ying Quartet, will take the stage for both the Wednesday and Friday concerts, along with chamber ensembles assembled from the festival’s renowned artist faculty.
All Bowdoin Festival Extra events are free and open to the public. Ticketed concerts cost $40 for adults; many concerts, masterclasses and other events throughout the season are free of charge.
The Bowdoin International Music Festival was founded in 1964 by Lewis Kaplan and the late Robert K. Beckwith of Bowdoin College. The festival’s mission is to provide Maine audiences with classical music performed to the highest artistic standards, and to provide gifted young musicians from around the world with an opportunity to study chamber music with worldclass artists.
