
THE REV. RICHARD “STONEFINGERS” JOHNSON will bring his self-named brand of “Christian Swamp Music” to Lisbon’s MTM Community Center on Sunday at 11 a.m. Johnson’s performance kicks off a week-long celebration to mark Family Christian Fellowship of Topsham’s 25th anniversary.
The week of events and activities will begin with an outdoor worship service on Sunday, June 16, at 11 a.m. at the MTM Community Center in Lisbon Falls where Johnson will perform. The outdoor service will also feature Family Christian Fellowship’s music team and will be followed by a potluck picnic and outdoor games. The public is welcome.
The Rev. Richard “Stonefingers” Johnson, a follower of Jesus Christ, does concerts, shares his testimony, and teaches from the scriptures in churches, correctional facilities, living rooms and other venues throughout the United States and Canada. His music is best described as “Christian
Swamp Music,” an original blend of acoustic blues, folk and gospel.
Johnson started singing and playing in coffeehouses around Boston during the folk music boom of the 1960s before giving his life to Jesus. Johnson has released seven CDs since 1992. The latest, “Forgiven, Forgotten, Set Free,” was recorded in the spring of 2004 at Gaither Studios.
The events and activities throughout the celebration week of June 16 to 22 includes a family fun day at Bradbury State Park, community service projects, and night worship services at the Freedom Life Center in Topsham. Community service projects will include a day at CareNet of Brunswick, and painting and cleaning at the MTM Community Center in Lisbon Falls.
Evening services begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, June 19-21, and will be hosted at the Freedom Life Center, 655 Augusta Road. Evening services will begin with worship and will feature a dance presentation, slideshows and teaching by guest ministers Bob Lemon and Eugene May. Evening services are open to the public and no registration is required.
Saturday, June 22, will be the grand finale with a Youth Rally at Safe Haven Farm, owned by Pastors Dave and Jen Novaria. Safe Haven Farm is located at 90 Shiloh Road in West Durham. The rally will begin at 1 p.m. and include fun games and activities at the horse barn throughout the day and will be followed by a cookout. A youth worship concert and bonfire with s’mores is planned from 6 to 9 p.m.
Families, kids, and young adults are welcome to participate for the entire day.
