BATH — The Centre St. Arts Gallery, LLC, is offering three Plein Air (on location) painting workshops with artist Eric Glass in southern Mid-coast Maine on Sunday, June 16, Saturday, July 20, and Saturday, Aug. 17.

The workshops are open to artists of all abilities and experience, who may attend any number of sessions at $50 per day.

Artists can register for one or all three Plein Air Workshops at Centre St. Arts Gallery, LLC, at 11 Centre St. The cost is $50 per full day session for instruction and critique. Space is limited and early registration is recommended. Locations will include Bailey Island, Cousins Island and Richmond waterfront for coastal and river views, and will be available upon registration.

Glass will offer instruction and critique throughout the day. The goal for these workshops is to simplify complex outdoor scenes. Artists will bring their own bag lunch and all painting supplies. They will paint all morning, have a critique at lunch and paint in the afternoon, with a critique at the end of the day. All locations will have facilities and parking.

Glass is a lifelong Maine resident who grew up in Freeport, where he began painting at age 10. He holds a 1980 BFA from Maine College of Art (then Portland School of Art), majoring in painting. In addition to his work in oil and watercolor, the artist has done sign painting, decoy painting, screen printing, woodworking, illustrating and picture frame restoration. Glass has taught painting privately, through community education programs and has assisted in painting workshops with fellow Maine College of Art graduate, Michael Vermette.

Glass’s art has been featured in many exhibits and art auctions over the years. These include the Freeport Art Club Summer Show, the Maine Art Gallery show in Wiscasset (where he was recognized with a Juror’s Choice Award in 2006), the Maine College of Art Auction and solo exhibits at the Freeport Library and the Owl’s Head Transportation Museum.

Illustrating projects have included drawings for a threevolume manual on radiation therapy and two children’s books about the adventures of a fire jeep. The artist has also begun picture frame restoration, a field that suits his careful, meticulous working method.

Glass has painted vintage airplanes for many years (a special interest of his). He earned his pilot’s license in 2000. The scenery of Monhegan Island, Mt. Katahdin and the Brunswick/Mid-coast area have also been favorite subjects.

The artist has lived in Brunswick for more than a decade with his wife, Theresa, and their four sons.
