The big dance in June for a Maine high school athlete isn’t the Senior Prom. It’s a state championship game. This Saturday, the boys lacrosse teams at Scarborough and Cape Elizabeth will lace up their dancing shoes – the kind with the little balls of shredded rubber stuck to them, and try to win the big, final game of their respective seasons.
The Capers will face Yarmouth Saturday at Fitzpatrick Stadium at 12:30 p.m. for the Class B state championship. The Capers earned their trip with a 9-8 overtime win in the regional finals over visiting Falmouth on Wednesday night. Leading the way for the Capers, sophomore midfielder Griffin Thoreck with five goals. Cam Wilson had two goals, including the overtime game winner. Max Barber and Alex Bornick each had one goal. Cape goalie Gabe McGinn made 11 saves.

Despite the attention of Falmouth’s imposing David Criscione, Cam Wilson is able to get off a low golf shot that finds the back of the net to tie the score at 4-4 with less than a minute to go in the first half.
