BRUNSWICK — Carlton E. Rideout, 90, of Brunswick, passed away on April 22, 2013, at his home in Brunswick. He was born in Bath, on Aug. 28, 1922, the son of Emery and Alice (Cobb) Rideout. He grew up in Bath and attended Bath schools. He joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country from 1942-1945, as he fought in World War II and in the Battle of the Buldge. He also served in France and Germany, 83rd Ohio Division, 105 Housters.

Carlton was employed as a mechanic for the cemetery department/public works for the city of Bath.

Carlton, as a young man, enjoyed camping and hunting on Cobbossee Stream. He loved to go to the Galley Restaurant daily for a great meal and chat with friends. He was living with his sister, Viola, for the past 4 1/2 years and enjoyed the many conversations they shared, as talking was something he had a passion for.

He is predeceased by his wife, Barbara (Walner) Rideout; his daughter, Linda Mason, whom he lived with for 10 years before her passing; Lenny Chase, whom he lived with until 2008 when he passed; brothers, Emery Rideout Jr., Henry Rideout and Arthur Rideout; and sisters, Ada Henderson and Beatrice Blethan.

Carlton leaves behind his granddaughter, Charlinda Lyons and her husband, John of Bowdoinham; great-grandson, John Lyons Jr. of Bowdoinham; nephews, Skip Stinson and Arthur Rideout Jr.; and many more nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 9, at 1 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery, Bath. A Celebration of Life will follow at the American Legion “Smith-Tobey” Post on Congress Avenue, Bath, at 2 p.m.
